Seed Sterilization and Sorting Tray, SeeDOS Code Number 90085 Facilitates Sterilization Sterilization of LDR brachytherapy seeds is necessary before being placed into the patient. The LDR Brachytherapy Seed Sterilization and Sorting Tray, SeeDOS Code 90085, (photo) is designed to allow you to sort seeds into ten separate wells 0.4 inched deep and 0.63 inches in diameter. Seeds can be sorted into different wells according to source strength Each well is stamped with a number for identification, and can easily hold over 100 seeds. The tray is 6.3 inches in diameter so it will easily fit into all autoclaves. Dries the Seeds After Sterilization One typical drying cycle completely dries the seeds before the tray is removed from the autoclave. Dry seeds are easier to load than wet seeds. Other seed storage devices may leave the seeds wet and difficult to handle. Basic Radiation Safety The LDR Brachytherapy Seed Sterilization and Sorting Tray significantly reduces exposure. Before and after sterilization the 1/8 inch aluminum cover is locked down over the wells to shield personnel from radiation. The cover has one hole in it. This cover can be rotated so the hole is positioned over one well at a time. During use, seeds from only that well are exposed while being loaded into your treatment system. A minimum number of seeds can be placed in each well to prevent additional exposure. The un-exposed wells are then shielded with 1/4 inch aluminum to prevent exposure from the wells not being used. The hole can also be positioned between two wells to prevent any exposure from LDR seeds in the wells. The cover can be locked in place to prevent spilling seeds while transporting them. Shielding Cover The optional Shielding Cover secures the Sterilization Cover for transportation. this is useful when the tray is loaded and then sent to be sterilized by another person or department.
